WORLD BOOK WEEK
Author sharing with Nguyễn Thành Phong
During World Book Week, CIS students had the opportunity to join a special author sharing
session with Nguyễn Thành Phong, a well-known Vietnamese comic artist and illustrator. The session welcomed Grade 10-12 students, for an insightful discussion on visual storytelling and comic illustration. Drawing from “Bé lợn, lớn bò” and “Thương nhớ thời bao cấp” - two texts studied by our IB students - Mr. Phong shared how illustrations can communicate meaning beyond words, and guided students in uncovering layers of meaning, visual details, and the intentions behind an artist’s work.

At CIS, book weeks are often enriched by sessions with authors, illustrators, and creative professionals. By bringing students closer to the people behind the stories, these experiences offer new perspectives on literature while nurturing a love of reading, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for storytelling in all its forms.
A book fair at CIS
As part of World Book Week, the CIS library welcomed a Book Fair in partnership with Phuong Nam Book. Throughout the week, students, parents, and teachers have had the opportunity to browse a wide selection of books and stationery, explore new titles, and discover resources that support both learning and enjoyment.

The Book Fair helps encourage a culture of reading by making books more visible and accessible within the school community. By giving students regular opportunities to explore stories and choose books that interest them, activities like this help nurture curiosity, independence, and a lifelong connection with reading.
Reading buddies
As part of World Book Week, CIS students came together for a Buddy Reading activity, where older students shared stories and guided younger learners through books. This gave younger students the opportunity to build confidence and develop their reading skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

The activity was equally valuable for older students, who were able to practise active listening, patience, and communication as they supported their younger peers. At CIS, activities like Buddy Reading help students see reading as both a valuable skill and a way to connect, learn, and grow together.
