In just four months, G. Phuc has obtained two of the three GM norms required to become a World Chess Grandmaster, a highly esteemed title dreamed by chess enthusiasts worldwide.
️️After securing his first GM norm at the Six Days Budapest tournament in Hungary last February, Phuc continued his impressive performance by attaining the second norm at the 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Quang Ninh Chess Tournament, which the Vietnam Chess Federation organized in partnership with the Quang Ninh Department of Culture and Sports on May 19th.
Competing against players from 11 countries over nearly a week, Phuc demonstrated unwavering focus and consistent performance throughout the nine rounds, achieving a remarkable score of 7 points and a performance rating of over 2600, marking a 20.1-elo point increase.
Despite a challenging start, Phuc displayed resilience by winning all four remaining games, including a victory against Grandmaster Tu Hoang Thong, to secure the norm. With two norms accomplished and one remaining, G. Phuc is on the cusp of achieving chess greatness. As he embarks on the final stage of his journey, we extend our heartfelt support and encouragement to him. Keep shining, G. Phuc!
