YOUNG TALENT GIA PHÚC CONFIDENTLY CONQUERS THE INTERNATIONAL CHESS ARENA AT FIDE WORLD YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023

뉴스 14/12/2023

The Canadian International School (CIS) congratulates Gia Phúc, our outstanding 9th-grade student and a FIDE  International Master (IM), for successfully leaving his mark on the international intellectual competition at the 2023 World Youth Chess Championships!

The World Youth Chess Championships are held annually for age groups U14, U16, and U18 for both boys and girls. This year's tournament took place in the city of Montesilvano, Italy, with 11 rounds to determine the scores. After many hours of intense competition, Gia Phúc excelled by completing 9 chess rounds. Particularly noteworthy was Gia Phúc's victory over Prokhorov in the 9th round, impressing international chess experts with his strategic moves, sacrificing the knight, bishop, and rook to attack the Russian opponent's king and ending the game after only 26 moves, with most of Prokhorov's pieces under threat.

Impressed by Gia Phúc's skillful chess moves (exchange of rook for bishop), the tournament organizers invited Phúc to participate in a live interview to discuss his unique moves and emotions during the victorious match. Despite the fatigue from a prolonged 6-hour game, Gia Phúc remained comfortable and confidently recreated his outstanding chess moves.

However, an unfortunate turn of events in the 10th round cost Gia Phúc the championship title. Nevertheless, the effort and passion of the young CIS chess player have earned the respect of the international chess community and become a source of inspiration for many young enthusiasts of this intellectual sport.

Once again, congratulations to Gia Phúc for reaching a new milestone on his journey to conquer the heights of chess. The School and Family will always accompany, follow closely, and wholeheartedly cheer for Phúc's dream of becoming a Grandmaster!"
