CIS Grade 6 Makerspace Projects

Robotics

The Grade 6 Classes are currently working on a Arduino based coding project that links to their Science curriculum on circuits. Students began with an introduction to basic coding by controlling and LED light with an Arduino UNO. Now at the end of the projects, students are using their knowledge of Arduino coding to control a L298n motor car through a series of tasks and mazes. Students are assessed on their ability to control their robot car, understanding of the circuits they have created, and their ability to problem solve throughout the project.

 Animal Sanctuary

The Grade 6C class is working on a cross-curricular project that combines expectations from Science, Literacy, Math, and the Arts. They will be producing an animal sanctuary. The challenge is to research and plan all aspects of the sanctuaries. Students have a limited budget and are provided with the cost for the various materials needed for their sanctuary. Additionally, they will incorporate their knowledge of measurement to map out the floor plan as well as volume and surface areas of all buildings. By the end of the project, students will discuss how their sanctuary not only meets their budget, but also meets the needs of the animals that their sanctuary will house.
